Working from home is no longer a rare occurrence that only applied to a select few industries.

With the rise of remote working during the pandemic, more and more companies are realizing that work-from-home jobs are not only possible, but they come with many benefits that both business and employees can enjoy.

It’s often cheaper to outsource jobs to remote workers and it also means businesses get to select from a wider talent pool. Employees can also benefit from no commutes, better work-life balances, and opportunities that aren’t location-specific.

But how do you find work-from-home jobs that don’t require a college degree or even experience?

The good news is that there are plenty of remote jobs that don’t require formal experience or education. We break down some of the top ones below.

1. Data entry

Data entry and clerical duties are one of the top work-from-home jobs for those with no experience or a college degree.

It usually doesn’t take much to get started as all training is typically provided on the job with their specific system. Data entry jobs are remote-friendly and can be carried out from anywhere in the world.

2. Customer service

Customer service representatives act as the first point of contact for queries, concerns, and complaints. Many businesses employ remote customer service workers to provide chat or phone support for customer queries. It’s cheaper than housing workers in an office when they can do it from home.

All you will usually need is a computer and/or a phone to communicate with customers.

3. Social media manager

These days, it’s more unusual for businesses and organizations to not have a social media presence. In fact, most have a few accounts across different platforms and need someone to manage everything.

As a social media consultant or manager, you could be responsible for making regular posts, creating media to share, dealing with customer queries, or even launching social media marketing campaigns.

You can get started with little experience beyond your own use of social media. But it’s helpful to develop a portfolio and client testimonials to prove your worth.

4. Content writer

Writing is another potential job route you can try. No qualifications are required, but if you have experience in writing and editing, this will help to set you apart.

Content writing and copywriting are skills that will be needed as long as businesses want to sell to potential customers. Content or copywriters can get work writing advertising copy, website homepages, service pages, blog content, social media copy, and PR material.

You will need to develop samples and build up a portfolio to show to potential clients, but you can get started with minimal setup.

5. Graphic designer

Do you have an eye for good design? Graphic designers are always in demand for logo design, graphics for social media, print materials, and other promotional materials.

You can post your services on a website like Fiverr or People Per Hour or even pitch directly to businesses such as marketing agencies to bag a job in graphic design.

All you need are the tools of the trade: a computer and some kind of graphic design program such as Photoshop or Canva.

6. Virtual assistant

What does a VA do? It’s probably easier to list the things they don’t do.

A virtual assistant is someone who provides a range of different support functions for a business or individual. VAs can provide telephone and email answering services, calendar management, general business admin, travel booking, marketing support, data entry, and social media management. It all depends on what each VA decides to offer.

Most VAs work on a freelance basis but you can also sign up with an agency to find jobs.

7. Voice-over artist

Another opportunity is a voice-over artist. A voice-over artist will typically record a script for an advertisement, an educational video, or some other promotional video or audio content.

For this type of work, you need a computer, a good quality microphone, editing tools, and a clear voice. You could pitch directly to companies or use an agency or freelancing website. It’s a good idea to put some samples together of your voice to give people a sneak peek of your talents.

8. Transcriber

There’s a big market for video or audio content that needs to be converted into written information. While there are AI tools that can do some of the work, there’s no replacement for having a dedicated transcriptionist produce written material.

9. Translator

If you are bilingual or multilingual, then your skills are always in demand. Businesses who want to appeal to broader, international audiences always need translators who can take information and create native-level written information for websites, social media, and other business materials.

10. Website designer

While it requires a certain degree of technical knowledge, many website designers are self-taught and there’s no need for a formal college education to become a website designer.

To learn how to become a website designer, there are plenty of free and paid courses online to help you learn the skills you need. You can then practice on websites of your own before offering your services to clients to build up a portfolio.

11. Dog groomer/walker/trainer

If you’re looking for a work-from-home job that doesn’t involve sitting in front of a computer all day, working with dogs is a great option. Requiring no formal college education or much experience, you can offer to walk dogs in your local neighborhood or provide house-sitting services for clients who go on vacation without their pets.

Some dog groomers operate out of their homes or visit people at their homes to offer their services, which is a cheaper option than renting out business space.

If you’re particularly talented with dog training, you could even offer additional dog training services as well.

How to get a work-from-home job without a college degree

As you can see, there are plenty of different options you can pursue if you’ve been dreaming of a remote job. Entry requirements for the above are fairly low because most of them you can do on a freelance basis. You may need to set up a website or join a freelancing site to advertise your services.

However, in some cases, you can apply for positions at agencies, for example, virtual assistant and transcribing jobs.

While none of the above require a degree, it’s still wise to try and build up experience and a portfolio to show that you can do the job. Luckily, there are many free courses and resources online to help you learn the skills you need.
